Feather River Stewardship Coalition

The Feather River Stewardship Coalition (FRSC) is a diverse community of individuals and organizations dedicated to improving the ecosystem health and wildfire resilience of public and private lands within the Upper Feather River Watershed—a critical headwater for the State Water Project in the northern Sierra Nevada. The Coalition unites state and federal agencies, community members, non-profit and non-governmental organizations, timber industry and Tribes to focus on reaching landscape-level management and restoration that facilitates a productive balance between community, economy, and environment.

The FRSC footprint sits at a vital ecological and social crossroads, with the watershed directly impacting downstream water users across California. The landscape has been impacted by several wildfires, notably the 2021 Dixie Fire—California’s largest single-ignition wildfire—underscoring the urgent need for landscape-scale resilience. 

At more than 2 million acres but with 33,000 people, the watershed relies on a limited but dedicated population for planning and stewardship. A growing network of partners are committed to increasing the pace and scale of restoration for the mutual benefit of communities and the environment. FRSC supports ese efforts through project planning and implementation, the pursuit of grant funds and the coordination of resources and knowledge. By cultivating collaboration among its partners, FRSC advances joint stewardship initiatives that are grounded in a participatory approach.
